PRESS RELEASE: New Ad: Wisconsinites with Pre-Existing Conditions Outline the Clear Choice Between Tammy Baldwin and Leah Vukmir

New Marquette Poll: 93% of Wisconsin voters say it’s important to require coverage for pre-existing conditions

MADISON — In a new Tammy Baldwin for Senate ad, Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions outline the choice this election between Tammy Baldwin and Leah Vukmir: “It’s a pretty clear choice. Leah Vukmir is for the insurance companies and Tammy Baldwin’s for us.”

Tammy Baldwin is leading the fight to protect coverage for pre-existing conditions. But Leah Vukmir supports multiple efforts to gut pre-existing condition protections and allow insurance companies to deny coverage.

“Despite Leah Vukmir’s desperate rhetoric and empty statements about pre-existing conditions, her record speaks loud and clear, and she isn’t tricking these Wisconsinites,” said campaign spokesperson Bill Neidhardt. “Tammy Baldwin is fighting to protect people with pre-existing conditions, while Leah Vukmir stands with the insurance companies who want to deny them coverage.”

Yesterday, the latest Marquette Law School poll showed that 93% of Wisconsin voters believe it’s very or somewhat important to require coverage for pre-existing conditions. In a previous Suffolk-Journal Sentinel poll, health care was found to be the top issue for voters in this race.

Tammy Baldwin has continued to make affordable health care a top focus. This week, Tammy forced a health care vote in the U.S. Senate on overturning the expansion of junk plans that allow insurance companies to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions. Tammy’s legislation received bipartisan support, even under a rare Trump administration veto threat, and changed the national narrative around protecting health care.
